Three Dogfish Get Creamed After a 21-12 Win at Home

Following their 21-12 victory last weekend, a few Dogfish players were in for a tasty surprise.

The San Francisco Dogfish opened their home schedule this past Saturday with a resounding victory over the visiting Vancouver Nighthawks.  An fantastic start to the season, but 3 of the hometown winners quickly lost.

Ever seen one of your teammates throw an ill-advised hammer goal that somehow worked despite all logic or reason and thought to yourself, “I would pie the daylights out of their face right now if I could.”

Turns out we have too.

This past week before the Home Opener, we asked our community which players they would like to see take a Pie to the DogFace via an open voting survey.

After 5 days of open polling, multiple campaigns held by fans and about a dozen scripts weeded out, the community had spoken. Out of the entire roster, the top 3 Dogfish were…

1st Place: Jamie Sheridan (2 goals, 2 assists, 2 blocks)

2nd Place (tied): Andrew Riggs (1 block, 100% completion percentage)

2nd Place (tied): Colby Chuck (1 goal, 1 assist in professional debut)

Now I know what you’re thinking: How on Earth did Jason Edelman (2 assists) not win? I asked myself the same question (since he obviously got my vote). I was then informed by a fan at the game that her mother forgot to vote for Jason Edelman when asked, ultimately causing him a crushing defeat by 1 vote. (There’s always next time, Mama Applegate.)

Even before the pies flew, the Dogfish gave the fans much to cheer about.  Strong performances by Thomas Lassetter (4 assists, 1 block), Sheridan, James Yeager (1 goal, 2 assists, 2 blocks), and Gabe Saunkeah (3 goals, 1 assist, 2 blocks) showed the Dogfish faithful that there are reasons to be hopeful as the Dogfish open the 2016 MLU Season hoping to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

In case you weren’t able to weather the weather with the rest of our fearless Dogfish fans to witness the pie-on-face action firsthand, check out the delicious pictures we whipped up of all the action.

The Dogfish are off this weekend, but catch their next home game, May 7 at Yellowjacket Stadium in Berkeley!

All MLU games are broadcast live via MLU Live!
