San Francisco announced that they have signed Michael McGuirk for the 2015 season.
McGuirk will be one of the new members of the Dogfish squad this year, but is a familiar face in ultimate circles. As a member of Bay Area club-level mixed team American BBQ and a gold-medal winner at the 2011 World Championships of Beach Ultimate, he is accustomed to high-level competition.
“Joining the Dogfish is a great honor,” said McGuirk. “I am extremely excited about the awesome talent and personality that we’ll have on the team this year, and I can’t wait to get on the field and help the team in whatever way I can.”
Lending a helping hand is part of McGuirk’s nature. After moving to Kenya in July 2013 to manage a drinking water disinfection program, McGuirk became the coach and co-captain of the Kenyan National Team.
He will be joining his international teammates at the 2015 World Championships of Beach Ultimate in Dubai, but McGuirk will also be playing closer to home with the Dogfish at Yellowjacket Stadium in Berkeley.
“Having grown up two miles away from the Dogfish’s home stadium, it is a dream come true to play ultimate frisbee as a professional in front of a true home crowd,” said McGuirk.
