Last season the San Francisco Dogfish donated all profits from beer sales to benefit a local nonprofit. This year that arrangement continues with some help from Lagunitas Brewing Company.
Petaluma-based Lagunitas Brewery, known for its playfully named beverages, is partnering with the Dogfish to support the Cancer in the Family Relief Fund. Lagunitas will donate beer for all Dogfish home games, and the team will once again donate the money from beer sales to the Fund.
Cancer in the Family Relief Fund facilitates grants for children with a parent or guardian who has cancer. The grants support extracurricular activities such as sports, art or music that give these children some sense of normalcy as their parent or guardian focuses on treatment and recovery.
“We love the support of the community and the additional exposure this partnership brings,” said Charlotte Swett, manager of the Fund. “It helps more individuals learn about our program and services.”
Lagunitas Brewing Company has supported numerous nonprofit organizations since its inception more than 20 years ago. Donation Manager Sarah-Jane Wiseman said, “What the Dogfish are doing–giving back to Cancer in the Family Relief Fund–is so admirable & inspiring. We commend them for reaching out and supporting this charity in their community. And for Lagunitas this is a win-win, because not only do we get to support Dogfish home games with beer for their fun and thirsty fans right here in beautiful San Francisco, but we get to support a wonderful organization. It’s all in line with what we like to do… turn beer into money for the cause.”
Dogfish Operations Manager Rusty May underscored the team’s commitment to the cause. “We’re proud to partner with Cancer in the Family Relief Fund again this year to raise money for their important mission, and with Lagunitas to improve our fan experience. Ultimate and cold beer go hand in hand.”
Come to the games, root for the Dogfish and raise a glass to show your support of families who need some cheer.
