San Francisco announced they have signed Ian Ranahan for the 2015 season.
The ambidextrous Ranahan was an offensive cutter in 2014, and one of seven former UC Santa Barbara players who joined the Dogfish last season.
“I am excited to be re-signing with the Dogfish and am looking forward to a strong year,” said Ranahan. “The talent level and enthusiasm at tryouts this year was very high.”
The Dogfish struggled last year following their 2013 finish as Western Conference champions. Expectations are high that player talent plus lessons learned from 2014 will turn things around for the team this year.
“We have a lot of hard work ahead of us,” said Ranahan, “but I know the coaches, returning players and new recruits are committed to building a team culture founded upon dedication, hard work and good sportsmanship.”
The team’s new home this year, Yellowjacket Stadium in Berkeley, is closer to Ranahan’s hometown of Orinda. That’s where he left his other high school sports behind for the thrill of ultimate.
“Ian is an extremely hard worker and does all the little things right that it takes to be a champion,” said Dogfish Head Coach Justin Safdie. “I’m excited to have him back on board for 2015.”
