The San Francisco Dogfish take the field at Boxer Stadium on Saturday with a three-part agenda: beat the Vancouver Nighthawks, find the fan with the best costume, and support families in their battle against cancer.

The Dogfish have consistently thrilled fans with their organized offense and dynamic defense. As they surge back after their first loss last week, they’re sure to bring the energy and experience the crowd has come to know and love. And they’re counting on a little help from those loyal fans.

This week’s game theme is Bay to Breakers. Established more than 100 years ago, the Bay to Breakers race features cadres of world-class athletes as well as costumed revelers, and has been a symbol of San Francisco’s distinctive spirit. So the Dogfish are encouraging fans to show their unique team spirit with a costume contest (family-friendly, please!). Put on your creative thinking cap and get to work—can your outfit rival Dougie’s?

The party continues at halftime with a performance by members of Love2Dance, a Novato-based studio that trains dancers of all ages. And in case you haven’t had a chance yet to show off your moves, there will be the traditional mini disc toss between the third and fourth quarters.

Speaking of tradition, it’s not unusual to go to a sports game and grab good food and a brew. The concession stand will be open and a food vendor will be onsite so you’ll have a range from snacks to more substantial fare. The team will be selling beer for the first time, and these suds are special.

All of the profits from beer sales will be donated to Cancer in the Family Relief Fund, which helps get grants to children with a parent or guardian who has cancer. The grants support extracurricular activities that give these children some sense of normalcy as their parent/guardian focuses on treatment and recovery.

Great game, great costumes, great cause— we’ve even ordered up some great weather! Come see the Dogfish defend their MLU Western Conference lead and join in the fun. Tickets are still available and the game starts at 3 pm.
